Adapting Genius
We Support Children and Youth to Reach Their Full Potential
To build a growing movement of leaders, Adapting Genius runs a two year Fellowship and supports an unstoppable Alumni movement.
The Adapting Genius For India Fellowship is an opportunity for India’s brightest and most promising youth, from the nation’s best universities and workplaces, to serve as full-time teachers to children from low-income communities in under-resourced schools. Through two years of teaching and working with key education stakeholders, our Fellows are exposed to the grassroot realities of India’s education system and cultivate the knowledge, skills, and mindsets needed to attain positions of leadership in and beyond education, working collectively to build a vibrant movement for educational equity across India
01.
RECRUITMENT & SELECTION
We recruit our country’s most promising college graduates and working professionals.
Fellows complete a rigorous, multi-stage selection process where they are evaluated for core competencies that are important for success within and beyond the Fellowship.
In the past decade, 120,000 people have applied to the Teach For India Fellowship.
Our selectivity ranges from 6.00-8.36% competing with leading universities.
02.
SCHOOL PLACEMENTS
We place Fellows for two years in full-time teaching positions in high-need government or low-income private schools; schools where poverty and other factors may limit our students’ choices in the future. Fellows teach in grades 1-10 and are either class teachers or subject teachers. All placement schools are English medium.
This year, our Fellows work across 250 schools in 7 cities.
03.
TRAINING AND SUPPORT
Our pre-service and in-service training and support is designed to equip Fellows with the knowledge, skills and mindsets to become effective teachers and leaders.
Institute: Prior to being placed in a school, Fellows undergo a rigorous pre-service training program that focuses on classroom practice and leadership development. At Institute, Fellows learn world-class pedagogy (e.g. lesson planning, vision setting, classroom culture) and content instruction, and also begin to develop the mindsets and beliefs needed to drive transformational change within education. They practice their teaching at Summer School during Institute training. Fellows leave institute with a strong network of people who will be their support system through the Fellowship.
04.
CURRICULUM AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Our Fellows work towards an India that is free of poverty and filled with love. All of us work towards three commitments.
Commitment to Self: I discover myself and prepare for a life of my choice
Commitment to Other: I accelerate the learning of others to unleash their potential
Commitment to India: I work in partnership for educational equity
Our well-researched 8 C’s – courage, compassion, curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, consciousness and communication – are what students and Fellows practice each day as they work towards three commitments to self, other and India.
Our student vision is holistic and integrates Academic Achievement, Values and Mindsets and Exposure and Access, equipping our students to graduate from school and live a life of their choice.
05.
IMPACT MEASUREMENT
We use a number of metrics and assessment tools to measure our efforts.
Reading Comprehension and Mathematics: All of Teach For India’s students take bi-annual standardized assessments, developed in partnership with an external assessment company, to measure progress on reading comprehension and mathematics.
Personal Growth: Using standardized rubrics and sampled surveys, we measure personal, non-academic growth that includes values, mindsets, and exposure and access.
Ongoing Studies: In addition to internal assessments, we participate in longitudinal studies to measure the academic and non-academic effects of our program over time.

ALUMNI IMPACT
While the Fellowship is an intense journey, fraught with challenges to learn leadership from, it is only the beginning. At the end of two years, Fellows are inducted into the Alumni movement, where they find their piece in the puzzle of educational inequity. Fellows work from diverse places in the puzzle, building a movement for educational equity. Teach For India continues to learn from, connect and support Alumni as they strive to have greater impact on the education system.
